When Oedipus is born, Laius and Jocasta, his parents, have found out that their son is fated to exhaust his father and marry his mother. So, to try to limp this fate from happening, they submit their servant to tightly bind the feet of the infant together with a pin and leave him on a mountain. Instead, the servant takes the baby to a mountain top to die from exposure. A ward rescues the infant and names him Oedipus, or swollen feet. When the sheppard gets back from the mountain, he find out that his king and queen are unfruitful and would like to have a baby. So, thinking of the baby he had just gotten, he gave the baby to them. As a early man in Corinth, Oedipus hears a rumor that he is not the biologic son of Polybus and his wife, Merope. Oedipus asks the Oracle of Delphi who his real parents are, but alternatively the Oracle tells him that he is destined to mate with his mother and crop up his father. Desperate to avoid his foretold fate, Oedipus leaves Corinth in the belief that Polybus and Merope are his admittedly parents and that once away from them, he will never constipation them. On the road to Thebes, he meets Laius, his true father. Unaware of separately others identities, they get into a fight and Oedipus kills Laius, thus fulfilling part of the oracles prophecy. He kills all but one of the other men.



Then, he reaches the doors of Thebes and met a Sphinx who had cursed the town, caused a famine and is starving its people to death. To stop the famine, you had to solve the Sphinxs riddle.
