When Oedipus is born, Laius and Jocasta, his parents, have found out that their son is fated to exhaust his father and marry his mother. So, to try to limp this fate from happening, they submit their servant to tightly bind the feet of the infant together with a pin and leave him on a mountain. Instead, the servant takes the baby to a mountain top to die from exposure. A ward rescues the infant and names him Oedipus, or swollen feet. When the sheppard gets back from the mountain, he find out that his king and queen are unfruitful and would like to have a baby. So, thinking of the baby he had just gotten, he gave the baby to them. On the road to Thebes, he meets Laius, his true father. Unaware of separately others identities, they get into a fight and Oedipus kills Laius, thus fulfilling part of the oracles prophecy.
